The deal places Qualcomm silicon inside Amazon Web Services infrastructure, competing directly with custom Arm designs AWS already builds in-house and the Nvidia accelerators that dominate 90% of AI training workloads. Qualcomm did not disclose chip volumes, revenue terms, or deployment timeline. Amazon confirmed the partnership in a brief statement but offered no procurement figures. Neither company specified whether the engagement covers general compute, AI inference, or network acceleration—three adjacent markets with different margin profiles and entirely different competitive landscapes.
The move matters because hyperscaler validation has been the missing piece in Qualcomm's diversification strategy. The company generates $35 billion in annual revenue, with 68% still derived from mobile handset processors and licensing. Automotive and IoT segments have grown, but data center silicon represents the only adjacent market large enough to offset iPhone and Android volume declines. Nvidia's data center segment alone generated $47.5 billion in the last four quarters, more than Qualcomm's entire top line.
