Between early 2023 and 2025, the number of Substacks earning **$500k+** a year doubled, from **27 to 52**, together clearing a floor of **$40 million** annually. That tier is not crowding, it is compounding.

Look at what occupies it. US politics is roughly **46%** of the top-earner revenue: loud, cheap, enormous. Finance sits right behind it and charges the most per reader, one of the most-read finance letters runs **$1,200 a year**.

**The steal:** if you can write about money, markets, or business with restraint instead of outrage, you are aiming at the highest-value lane with the fewest disciplined competitors. The political writers fight over volume. The finance lane rewards trust, and trust has almost no supply.

The myth this ends: that the top is saturated. It is growing, and the calm, credible business voice is the seat nobody is fighting for. Take it before someone else names the category.
