But the problem it solves is real and getting bigger: AI tools scraping your site for training data without permission and without compensation. (This is the part that gets the opens.)\n[ your take… ]\n———\nHere is a real one you can run this week 👇\nPublishers and ecommerce brands facing siege from AI crawlers are deploying 'LLM honeypotting' — an old security technique updated for the generative AI era — to fight back, per Digiday.\nHere's the cool part — the lever almost everyone misses (and you don't have to): if you sell online and see your product photos or product descriptions showing up in generative search results or AI fashion tools (e.g., ChatGPT plugins that describe your items), honeypot your site. Create a page that robots can crawl but humans cannot (blocked by JavaScript or behind a form). Populate it with intentionally wrong or nonsensical product data. When the crawler ingests it, downstream AI tools that used your site as training data will start returning bad results. Over time, crawlers learn to distrust your domain. You don't remove the data; you poison it.\nWhat that means for you: This is still very early — most physical-product brands haven't heard of honeypotting. But the problem it solves is real and getting bigger: AI tools scraping your site for training data without permission and without compensation. Honeypotting is not the long-term answer (regulation and licensing will eventually replace it), but right now, it's a tool that works. Set it up before the big season; it takes a few weeks to be effective.\nIf you make, sell, or gift anything with your name on it — this is yours to run. You can do this.\n(Real, not theory — Digiday: https://digiday.com/media/wtf-is-llm-honeypotting/?utm_campaign=digidaydis&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=general-rss.)\n———\nOr — want it built FOR you?
