Turning Stone Resort Casino opened The Crescent, a 107-room luxury hotel anchored by fine-dining restaurant Salt, on July 17 in Verona, New York. The property represents phase one of a $400 million capital program the Oneida Nation enterprise calls Turning Stone Evolution. The nation committed the full sum in 2024. Construction began eleven months ago.
The Crescent sits on seven acres of new grounds connecting the existing resort's east side to a future convention center. Salt occupies 8,400 square feet on the hotel's ground floor with a menu built around regional ingredients and a wine program focused on New York State and French producers. The hotel's 107 keys include twelve suites ranging from 850 to 1,200 square feet. Rack rates open at $425 per night midweek, climbing to $595 weekends through Labor Day. Oneida Nation leadership declined to share pro forma RevPAR targets or stabilized occupancy assumptions.
This matters because Turning Stone now controls the only luxury-flagged inventory between Syracuse and Albany outside Saratoga Springs during racing season. The Mohawk Valley corridor has seen zero new upper-upscale hotel supply since 2019. Oneida Nation operated Turning Stone at 78% occupancy across its existing 600 keys in fiscal 2025, according to figures the enterprise shared with Oneida County in April. Gaming revenue grew 11% year-over-year in the same period, driven by table games and high-limit slots. The Crescent's ADR floor—$425—sits $190 above Turning Stone's legacy tower average, creating immediate rate tension across the property.
The capital program's second phase breaks ground in October: a 90,000-square-foot convention center designed for groups of 800 to 1,200. Oneida Nation expects completion by June 2027. The nation has not disclosed whether it will pursue third-party management for meetings and events or operate in-house. Phase three, slated for announcement in Q4 2026, involves renovations to the original 1993 casino floor and an expansion of the property's spa from 33,000 to 54,000 square feet. Total program spend remains fixed at $400 million.
Watch whether Oneida Nation files for EB-5 immigrant investor capital before October's phase-two groundbreaking. The nation structured previous expansions without outside equity, but the convention center's cost—estimated at $140 million of the total budget—would make EB-5 attractive if gaming revenue softens. Also watch Salt's performance through October. If the restaurant runs below 65% covers on weekends, expect menu revisions by December. The test case is whether Upstate New York can support $150 per person dining outside Saratoga and the Finger Lakes.
The Crescent gives Turning Stone the only luxury product within ninety minutes of four million people who previously drove to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods for comparable inventory. Oneida Nation's fiscal 2026 runs through next March.
