US Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Pull $3.2B in Week, Highest Since October

Institutional capital returns to crypto exposures through regulated wrappers as volatility subsides and allocators rotate back in.

US spot Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds recorded $3.2 billion in net inflows during the week ending early May, the largest single-week haul since October 2025, according to fund flow data compiled by Bank of America. The surge marks a sharp reversal from the muted January-through-March period, when weekly inflows struggled to breach $500 million and redemptions occasionally dominated.

The move was concentrated in spot Bitcoin products, which captured roughly $2.8 billion of the total, with the remainder flowing into spot Ether vehicles. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust and Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund accounted for the majority of the Bitcoin allocation, while Grayscale's Ethereum Trust and BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust split the Ether flows. Daily inflow data shows the acceleration began midweek and sustained through Friday's close, suggesting coordinated allocation decisions rather than retail momentum.

This matters because the October 2025 benchmark week coincided with Bitcoin trading near all-time highs above $73,000 and preceded a sharp correction that shook out levered positions and froze institutional appetite. The current inflow cycle is occurring with Bitcoin in the $62,000-$64,000 range—roughly 15% below those prior peaks—indicating allocators are stepping in at perceived value rather than chasing momentum. The distinction is meaningful: family offices and fund managers building exposure at relative discounts typically hold longer and tolerate less volatility-driven churn.

The timing also aligns with two structural shifts. First, the SEC's April guidance clarifying that spot crypto ETFs qualify for retirement account inclusion under certain custodial arrangements has unlocked a new capital pool. Second, volatility compression in Bitcoin—annualized realized volatility has dropped below 40% for the first time since early 2024—has made the asset class eligible for risk-parity and balanced-mandate portfolios that previously excluded it on variance grounds. Combined, these shifts widen the addressable capital base beyond pure alpha-seeking allocators.

Operators should monitor two near-term catalysts. The first is the May 15 quarterly rebalance for multi-asset ETFs that now hold crypto exposures; any incremental buying will confirm sustained institutional appetite. The second is June's options expiry calendar, particularly the June 27 combined Bitcoin and Ether contract roll, which will test whether the current spot demand translates into derivative positioning or remains confined to physical wrappers. Both events offer clean reads on whether this is rotation or true net-new capital.

The fact that institutional capital is returning through regulated products at prices 15% below prior highs, rather than at euphoric peaks, is the opinion. The market is learning.

The takeaway
$3.2B weekly crypto ETF inflows, highest since October, signal institutions buying value rather than momentum.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
