LVMH Reports €42.6B H1 2026 Revenue, Missing Consensus by €1.8B as Organic Growth Lags Hermès by 730bps

French luxury conglomerate posts first sub-forecast half since 2020, with Fashion & Leather down 4.2% organically while peers expand.

LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton reported first-half 2026 revenue of €42.6 billion, falling €1.8 billion short of the consensus €44.4 billion forecast and marking the group's first material earnings miss since the pandemic recovery began. Organic revenue growth registered 1.1%, trailing Hermès International's 8.4% and Compagnie Financière Richemont's 5.7% for the same period, the widest peer performance gap in LVMH's tier-one competitive set since Q2 2019.

The Fashion & Leather Goods division, which generates 42% of group revenue, posted organic decline of 4.2% on reported sales of €17.9 billion. Louis Vuitton, the anchor brand contributing an estimated €9.1 billion of that figure, saw same-store sales contract 6.8% in Greater China and 3.4% in Americas, per channel checks from Bernstein and HSBC. Watches & Jewelry fell 7.1% organically to €5.3 billion, with Bulgari and TAG Heuer both registering double-digit declines in mainland China doors. Selective Retailing, anchored by Sephora and DFS, grew 2.9% but from a €8.2 billion base that remains 11% below pre-COVID levels when adjusted for constant currency.

The miss matters because LVMH has historically traded at a 1.8x revenue multiple premium to the European luxury index, a spread justified by superior organic growth and margin discipline. That premium compressed to 1.3x in morning trading following the release, erasing roughly €14 billion in market capitalization and pulling the CAC 40 down 83 points to 8,337. More concerning for allocators: this is the third consecutive reporting period where LVMH has underperformed Hermès on organic growth by more than 500 basis points, a structural gap last observed during the 2015-2016 China slowdown. Back then, LVMH required nine quarters to reclaim peer-relative momentum, during which the stock underperformed the MSCI Europe Index by 1,240 basis points.

The divergence stems from brand architecture. Hermès operates sixteen production sites in France with vertical integration across 73% of its supply chain, allowing price increases of 6-8% annually without demand destruction. LVMH's seventy-five brands span wine to luggage, with outsourced production representing 41% of Fashion & Leather cost of goods sold. When Chinese consumers trade down or defer purchases, they exit LVMH's accessible luxury tier—Fendi, Celine, Marc Jacobs—while Hermès Birkin waitlists extend to 18 months unchanged. Richemont, meanwhile, derives 68% of revenue from hard luxury categories with inherent scarcity, insulating Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels from discretionary spending pullbacks.

Operators should watch LVMH's Q3 2026 trading update, typically released in mid-October, for any acceleration in Greater China same-store sales following the government's ¥2.1 trillion consumption stimulus package announced in late June. The 12-week lag between policy implementation and luxury category response suggests measurable impact by late September. Separately, track Sephora's North American comp-store growth; if that metric stays above 4% through year-end, it may offset €600-800 million in lost Fashion & Leather revenue. Finally, monitor whether LVMH adjusts its €2.8 billion share buyback authorization, currently 47% deployed; suspension would signal management expects prolonged margin pressure.

The CAC 40 has now traded sideways for six weeks, with LVMH contributing -140 basis points of index drag since early June. Kering, Hermès, and LVMH together represent 18.4% of the index, meaning French equity performance hinges on luxury normalization that remains four quarters behind the timeline luxury CEOs projected in January.

The takeaway
LVMH's 730bps organic growth lag versus Hermès marks the widest peer gap since 2015, erasing €14B in market cap and compressing its historic valuation premium.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

Built by the craft floor — apparel, media, packaging, and secure print.
This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
