Vertiv Holdings announced Thursday it will acquire King Environmental Services Ltd., a UK-based provider of fluid management and testing services for critical thermal infrastructure. The transaction price was not disclosed. King operates across Europe and the Middle East, servicing data center cooling loops that handle the thermal loads from AI chipsets running at 350W to 700W per accelerator.
The acquisition gives Vertiv recurring service revenue in markets where hyperscalers are signing multi-gigawatt power purchase agreements ahead of physical buildout. King's technicians handle glycol loop testing, leak detection, and preventive maintenance on closed-loop liquid cooling systems—work that becomes mandatory as rack densities exceed 30 kilowatts. Vertiv already manufactures the chillers, cooling distribution units, and rear-door heat exchangers. King adds the field service layer that keeps those systems within thermal spec during 24/7 operation.
Vertiv reported $7.6 billion in trailing revenue as of Q3 2024, with thermal management comprising roughly 40% of sales. The company has guided analysts toward high-teens organic growth in its cooling segment through 2025, driven entirely by AI infrastructure deployments. Hyperscalers are no longer retrofitting air-cooled rows. They are specifying liquid cooling from the RFP stage, which means service contracts get signed before racks ship. King's EMEA footprint positions Vertiv to capture that service annuity in regions where it previously relied on third-party contractors.
The deal also consolidates a fragmented market. Fluid testing and loop commissioning for data centers has historically been handled by regional HVAC contractors with limited scale. As AI workloads push thermal design beyond the competence of generalist MEP firms, facility operators are looking for specialists who understand dielectric fluid chemistry and can respond to thermal events in under four hours. Vertiv now controls that capability in jurisdictions where new data center permits are running 18 to 24 months ahead of construction start.
Allocators should track Vertiv's gross margin in the next two earnings calls. Service revenue typically carries 200 to 300 basis points higher margin than equipment sales, and King's contracts are multi-year. If Vertiv can integrate King's customer base without margin dilution, the acquisition becomes accretive by mid-2025. Watch also for follow-on acquisitions in North America, where the thermal service market remains unconsolidated and where 12 gigawatts of new data center power is expected online by 2026.
Vertiv has not disclosed a timetable for regulatory clearance. King's UK domicile and lack of defense or telecom exposure suggest minimal antitrust friction. Integration should complete in Q2 2025.
The takeaway
Vertiv is buying recurring revenue in AI thermal management as hyperscalers lock EMEA capacity ahead of buildout.

AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
