Auburn Signs NIL Deal With Aflac Kickoff Game Ahead of Sept. 5 Baylor Opener

Peach Bowl Inc. converts game sponsor into player-compensation layer, testing blueprint for other neutral-site operators.

The Aflac Kickoff Game announced Tuesday a name, image, and likeness deal with Auburn players ahead of the Tigers' Sept. 5 season opener against Baylor in Atlanta. Financial terms were not disclosed. The agreement marks the first time Peach Bowl Inc., the nonprofit that operates the event, has structured game sponsorship to flow directly to participating athletes rather than stopping at the university.

Aflac, which has held Kickoff Game naming rights since 2008, now pays twice: once for the event branding, once for the NIL layer. The structure sidesteps NCAA restrictions on institutional involvement while allowing Peach Bowl Inc. to offer recruiting ammunition. Auburn's athletic department negotiated player participation but does not touch the NIL payments. Baylor did not join the arrangement, leaving Auburn's roster as the sole beneficiary for this cycle. A person familiar with the deal said the NIL component runs low six figures, distributed among 20 to 25 Auburn players who will appear in Aflac-branded content leading up to kickoff.

The move matters because neutral-site games have struggled to justify escalating rights fees to universities. Auburn and Baylor each receive roughly $5 million in appearance guarantees from the Kickoff Game, but universities increasingly demand more as College Football Playoff expansion dilutes the value of marquee nonconference scheduling. Adding NIL as a third revenue stream lets bowl operators compete with home-game economics. An SEC administrator not authorized to speak publicly said his school is already fielding calls from bowl committees asking how to structure similar deals for 2026 scheduling.

Aflac's angle is different. The insurer sponsors 15 college programs outright, including Auburn, and views NIL as a way to activate existing relationships without breaching conference advertising exclusivity. By routing payments through Peach Bowl Inc., Aflac avoids triggering SEC sponsorship conflicts while associating its brand with Auburn's offensive line in pre-game digital content. The company plans to use player testimonials in its small-business insurance vertical, targeting the same demographics that watch noon kickoffs on Labor Day weekend.

Watch whether Baylor joins a similar NIL arrangement before Sept. 5, and whether Peach Bowl Inc. applies the structure to its Dec. 31 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl matchup. The College Football Playoff will field 12 teams this season, meaning eight programs miss the bracket but still hold top-25 rosters. Those teams need inventory. If the NIL layer proves workable, expect Goodyear Cotton Bowl and Capital One Orange Bowl operators to pitch comparable deals during their spring 2026 contracting windows.

Aflac's Medicare supplement sales in Georgia grew 11% year-over-year in Q4 2024, per the company's January earnings call, driven partly by Auburn-branded co-marketing in the state's I-85 corridor.

The takeaway
Peach Bowl Inc. converts Aflac sponsorship into NIL payments for Auburn players, creating neutral-site revenue model other bowls will copy by 2026.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
