The University of Arkansas closed a naming rights agreement with CommunityAmerica Credit Union that makes Razorback Stadium the most expensive titled venue in college football. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal surpasses SoFi's $35 million arrangement with UCLA's Rose Bowl naming rights and Protective Life's $6 million annual commitment to Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium field naming.
The stadium seats 76,000 and hosts seven home games most seasons. Arkansas athletics pulled $170 million in revenue for fiscal 2023, roughly middle-of-the-pack SEC performance. CommunityAmerica Credit Union operates 34 branches across Missouri and Kansas, with $4.3 billion in assets. The credit union's primary deposit base sits in Kansas City, about 300 miles north of Fayetteville. The deal includes stadium naming and what the university called "integrated brand presence" across digital, broadcast, and on-campus touchpoints. No renovations are bundled into the package.
Naming rights in college football have lagged professional benchmarks by design. Booster sentiment and tradition arguments kept most Power Five programs from selling stadium titles outright. SoFi's Rose Bowl deal cracked that ceiling in 2022, but it applied only to UCLA home games, not to the Rose Bowl Game itself. Arkansas's move resets the comp set. Athletic directors at peer SEC programs—Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina—will now field questions from their CFOs about comparable deals. Credit unions in regional markets represent a new buyer class: they lack the national footprint that Coca-Cola or AT&T require, but they hold deposit ambitions in college football's demo and can justify mid-eight-figure commitments if the broadcast reach is clean.
Arkansas's timing is deliberate. The SEC's new media deal with ESPN and ABC pays each school $51 million annually starting in 2024, but facility debt service and NIL collective pressure are squeezing incremental revenue lines. The Razorbacks opened a $160 million football operations center in 2018, still carrying bond obligations. Their NIL collective, Arkansas Edge, trails Georgia and Alabama in reported donor velocity. A naming rights check that does not require new construction or bowl game revenue-sharing gives the athletic department a clean margin boost.
Watch for Missouri and Mississippi State to accelerate naming rights conversations before their next fiscal planning cycles in March. SoFi is reportedly circling additional Pac-12 and Big Ten venues after its Rose Bowl entry. CommunityAmerica's deal includes no disclosed exit ramps, but credit union M&A activity in the Midwest has picked up; if CommunityAmerica merges or rebrands, Arkansas likely holds a renegotiation window. The SEC will publish updated athletic department financials in January, and Arkansas's next number will include this deal's first-year impact.
The credit union's Kansas City branch network sits 60 miles from Arrowhead Stadium, where it holds no naming assets. College football gave it a cleaner path to a marquee property than the Chiefs' asking price would allow.
