McGregor Reebok Deal Lapses, Opens $15M–$30M Annual Kit Market

First time since 2015 the fighter controls his own ring apparel; Mayweather bout creates bidding window.

Conor McGregor's Reebok endorsement deal has lapsed, placing the fighter outside the UFC's uniform supply contract for the first time since the league-wide apparel agreement launched in July 2015. The timing creates a clean sponsorship auction ahead of the August 26 Floyd Mayweather boxing match, where McGregor will wear non-UFC gear into the ring and pocket whatever logo deals he negotiates directly.

The Reebok contract, signed in parallel with the UFC's six-year $70M exclusive kit deal, carried an estimated annual value of $5M but required McGregor to wear Reebok fight night and promotional apparel inside all UFC broadcasts. That restriction no longer applies. McGregor's manager Audie Attar confirmed the lapse but declined to name bidders. The Mayweather fight falls outside UFC jurisdiction—it's a boxing match promoted by Mayweather Promotions—so McGregor controls trunk sponsor patches, walkout gear, and training camp apparel without UFC revenue splits.

The market math is narrow but lucrative. Mayweather–McGregor is projected to generate 1.5M–2M pay-per-view buys in North America, plus significant international distribution. A single trunk logo for McGregor could command $8M–$12M from a crypto exchange, sports betting operator, or liquor brand seeking young male reach. Walkout jacket patches and training camp visibility add incremental inventory. McGregor's own Proper No. Twelve whiskey brand is already confirmed for some placements, but the fighter historically layers paid sponsors around owned assets.

Three sponsor categories are circling: sports betting (McGregor's Irish nationality and combat sports demo align with emerging US legislation), premium alcohol (competitive placement against Mayweather's own Mayweather Promotions sponsors), and automotive (McLaren and Lamborghini have both appeared in McGregor's social content recently, though neither confirmed commercial terms). The fighter's Instagram reach sits at 47M followers, third among active combat athletes behind only Khabib Nurmagomedov and Mayweather himself.

The lapse also signals McGregor's broader pivot. He has not fought in UFC since July 2021, when he fractured his tibia against Dustin Poirier. His Proper No. Twelve whiskey sold a majority stake to Proximo Spirits in 2021 for a reported $600M valuation, netting McGregor an estimated $150M. The fighter is no longer economically dependent on per-fight purses or UFC apparel compliance. One brand consultant who has pitched McGregor's camp in the past six months noted the team is now prioritizing equity deals and product launches over straight endorsement fees, a shift that makes a Reebok renewal less essential.

Reebok itself is in transition. Authentic Brands Group acquired the brand from Adidas in 2021 for $2.5B and has since pulled back combat sports spend, letting several UFC athlete deals lapse without replacement. The company did not respond to request for comment on McGregor renewal discussions.

Watch the prefight press conferences in June and July. McGregor will wear something to the podium in New York, Los Angeles, and London, and whatever logo appears will define the market price for combat sports kit deals going forward. Training camp content will start appearing on McGregor's Instagram by late June—frame-by-frame analysis of gym gear will tell the rest. If no apparel logo materializes, McGregor is either holding inventory for his own brand launch or the market came in below his number.

Mayweather earned an estimated $25M from ring apparel and trunk sponsors during his 2015 Manny Pacquiao fight. McGregor has six weeks to close that gap.

The takeaway
McGregor's lapsed Reebok deal opens a **$15M–$30M** kit auction before Mayweather; first UFC-free sponsorship window since 2015.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
