Angel Reese Posts 28 Rebounds in WNBA Record Performance as Sparks Drop Fourth Straight

Chicago's second-year forward breaks Sylvia Fowles' single-game mark; Sparks roster churn continues as marketing deals accelerate.

Angel Reese pulled down 28 rebounds in the Los Angeles Sparks' loss to the Atlanta Dream, breaking Sylvia Fowles' 27-rebound WNBA single-game record set in 2018. The Sparks lost their fourth consecutive game. Reese finished with 14 points and the historic board total in 37 minutes. The Dream won by nine points.

The performance arrives as the Sparks navigate a rotation without Rae Burrell, who scored 18 points in the previous win but sat out with an undisclosed injury. Los Angeles is 12-17 on the season. The Dream improved to 10-19 and snapped a three-game slide. Reese's previous career high was 24 rebounds in January. She is averaging 11.8 rebounds per game this season, second in the league behind A'ja Wilson's 12.1.

The record matters because Reese's profile drives the WNBA's youngest audience cohort. Her Instagram following—4.2 million—is larger than every current WNBA player except Caitlin Clark. Reese signed a multi-year extension with Reebok in March worth a reported $2 million annually, the largest shoe deal for a WNBA sophomore. The company is building a signature line for release in Q4 2025. Her rebounding prowess is the statistical anchor of the marketing pitch: dominance that shows up in box scores casual fans can parse.

For the Sparks, the loss extends a stretch in which they have gone 3-7 since the Olympic break. The franchise is in the second year of a front-office rebuild under general manager Raegan Pebley. Attendance at Crypto.com Arena is up 14% year-over-year, driven in part by visits from Clark, Reese, and other marquee rookies. The team's local television deal with Spectrum SportsNet expires after this season. Negotiations are stalled. League sources say the Sparks are exploring direct-to-consumer streaming options that would bypass traditional RSN economics.

Burrell's absence complicates the playoff push. She has started 19 games and is shooting 37% from three-point range, the best mark among Sparks rotation players. The team has not disclosed a timeline for her return. Los Angeles sits 1.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot with 11 games remaining. The Dream, meanwhile, are 2.5 games back and now hold the tiebreaker after winning the season series 2-1.

Reese's record breaks a mark Fowles set while playing for the Minnesota Lynx in a double-overtime game against the Indiana Fever. Fowles grabbed 27 boards in 47 minutes. Reese did it in regulation. The previous Sparks franchise record was 24 rebounds by Lisa Leslie in 2004. Reese is the third player to record 25+ rebounds in a game since the league moved to a 40-minute game clock in 2006. She is on pace to break Fowles' single-season rebound total of 404, set in 2018.

The Sparks host the Phoenix Mercury on Friday. Burrell's availability will be announced 90 minutes before tip. Reese's Reebok signature shoe campaign launches in November with a Times Square billboard buy. The Sparks' RSN deal expires December 31.

The takeaway
Reese's **28-rebound** record strengthens her case as the WNBA's premier marketing asset outside of Clark; Sparks playoff hopes hinge on Burrell's return timeline.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
