Visa Signs Red Bull Technology Partnership, Extends Formula 1 Portfolio Beyond Ferrari

Visa has signed a partnership with Red Bull Technology, the engineering division behind the Red Bull Racing and Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 teams, marking the payment giant's second active F1 team arrangement. The company already sponsors Scuderia Ferrari, making this a quietly unusual bet: most global sponsors pick one garage.

The deal covers both Red Bull's championship-winning senior squad and its junior outfit, now running as Visa Cash App RB after the payments app extended its own backing through 2026. Red Bull Technology employs more than 1,000 people at its Milton Keynes campus, where it designs chassis, power units (via Red Bull Powertrains), and simulator rigs that other teams license. Visa's branding will appear on cars, team kit, and hospitality—standard activation—but the real utility is access to the engineering pipeline that produced three consecutive constructors' championships from 2010-2013 and last year's title under Max Verstappen.

Visa's Ferrari relationship, signed in 2020, runs through at least 2025 and includes co-branded card programs in Italy and Latin America. Adding Red Bull suggests the company is indexing on reach, not exclusivity. Red Bull Racing's social channels hit 22 million followers across platforms, skewing younger and more North American than Ferrari's European tilt. Meanwhile, Visa Cash App RB functions as a farm team—seven drivers have graduated to senior seats since 2020—so Visa now touches both the aspirational (Ferrari) and the developmental (RB) ends of the grid.

The timing matters for Red Bull's 2026 power unit transition. Red Bull Powertrains, formed in 2021 after Honda's exit, will supply engines for both teams starting that season, built in partnership with Ford. Sponsors signing now lock in rates before the Ford brand halo inflates valuations. Visa gets early positioning as Red Bull pivots from energy drink merchandiser to full-spectrum motorsport manufacturer. Ford's logos go on the engine cover; Visa's go near the cockpit. That's the trade.

Formula 1's U.S. growth underwrites all of this. The series now runs three U.S. races—Miami, Austin, Las Vegas—and Netflix's *Drive to Survive* pushed American linear TV viewership up 28% year-over-year in 2023. Visa operates in 200 countries but still generates roughly 50% of purchase volume in North America, where contactless payment adoption lags Europe and Asia. F1's U.S. footprint gives Visa a premium billboard for tap-to-pay messaging in exactly the markets where the behavior hasn't fully scaled.

What's less clear: whether Visa negotiated category exclusivity. Mastercard sponsors McLaren; American Express has no team deal but runs heavy F1 hospitality spend around race weekends. If Visa didn't lock the category, expect Amex to bid on a team when Aston Martin or Alpine refresh their sponsor stacks ahead of 2026 rule changes. If Visa *did* lock it, the deal's value to Red Bull just doubled.

Watch for Visa-branded fan zones at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, where Red Bull will debut its 2025 livery tweaks. Also: Red Bull Powertrains' first public dyno footage, likely timed to a sponsor reveal event in Q2 2025, will show which logos sit closest to the Ford script. And Ferrari's 2025 renewal window opens in six months; if Visa doesn't extend there, this Red Bull deal becomes replacement, not expansion.

The takeaway
Visa now backs both Red Bull's engineering shop and Ferrari—rare dual exposure betting F1's U.S. surge outlasts any single team's form.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
