YouTube's Watch With feature lets creators livestream reactions to broadcasts — and physical brands can use the same play

Real-time commentary turns passive viewing into social proof at scale, driving product discovery through creator presence.

YouTube is expanding Watch With, a livestreaming feature that lets creators broadcast real-time reactions and commentary alongside other videos, according to Marketing Dive. The feature, previously limited to select creators, now reaches a broader group. Viewers see both the original broadcast and the creator's live reaction simultaneously on any device — turning solo viewing into a shared, commentated experience.

The mechanic is straightforward: a creator starts a Watch With stream, selects a video to react to, and their audience watches both feeds at once. The creator's commentary runs in real time, creating a second layer of content on top of the original. Viewers can switch between the creator's camera and the source video, or watch both side-by-side. The format borrows from Twitch's co-streaming model but applies it to YouTube's massive catalog of product reviews, unboxings, and brand content.

The feature works because it converts passive consumption into an event with social proof baked in. A viewer watching a product demo alone makes a decision in isolation. A viewer watching the same demo with a trusted creator's live reactions gets real-time validation, skepticism, or excitement — all of which drive conversion. The creator's presence anchors the viewing experience, making the product's performance feel immediate and verified. For physical products, this turns a static review into a live sales floor with commentary.

The broader pattern: platforms are building tools that let creators layer their voice onto existing content without creating from scratch. Watch With requires no new filming, no product sourcing, no logistics. A creator picks a brand's official video, reacts live, and the audience experiences both. For brands, this means their owned content can be reactivated by dozens of creators simultaneously, each bringing their own audience and credibility. The original video does the product education; the creator does the trust-building.

A small physical-product brand can run this play in three steps. First, create a 15-20 minute product demo video and upload it to YouTube as unlisted. Focus on use, not marketing — show the product working, explain materials, demonstrate durability. This becomes the asset creators react to. Second, reach out to 5-10 micro-creators in your category (5,000-50,000 followers) and offer them early access to the product plus the unlisted video link. Ask them to schedule a Watch With stream where they react to your demo live, adding their own commentary. Provide talking points but let them steer. Third, promote the scheduled Watch With streams to your email list and social channels. Drive your audience to the creator's live event, where they'll watch your demo through the creator's lens. Cost: product seeding plus the time to film one demo. No media spend required.

The leverage is structural. One demo video becomes ten live events, each with a different creator's audience and trust layer. The brand controls the core message through the original content; the creators control the social proof and real-time interaction. Each Watch With stream is a distinct conversion opportunity, but the brand only films once. For a solo founder, this turns a single product video into a multi-channel launch event without managing ten separate creator partnerships or producing ten custom pieces of content.

The next move is to treat your product demo library as Watch With fuel. Every time you ship a new feature, record a clean walkthrough. Every time you run a limited drop, film the unboxing and setup. Stock a channel of unlisted demos that creators can react to on demand. The format scales with creator participation, not your content production. YouTube is building the rails; brands that seed the content early will own the Watch With pipeline before their competitors understand the format exists.

The takeaway
One product demo video becomes ten live creator events when you let influencers livestream reactions to your content instead of asking them to create from scratch.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
