The Website You Never Think About Was Open Before Breakfast

PHP is the engine under 69% of the websites whose language is known, which means it is under the website in your company you have not thought about in a year: a dealer portal, a company store, the system that sends your email. The flaw had been in it for more than a decade. Researchers working with AI found it in August. The disclosure broke on Monday night, the attacks began before dawn Tuesday, and the patch landed at 10 a.m. Eastern while governments in Europe took their own websites down to wait for it. No company has reported a breach yet, and that is not the comfort it sounds like: the week between "nothing reported" and "the first one reported" is the week the checking happens. If your site is built on a platform that does not run PHP, this does not touch it. If a vendor's does, it may already have. One email, sent today, tells you within the hour which is which.

Trading card game hits $600M quarterly revenue, parent Hasbro raises full-year outlook

Per Retail Dive, Magic: The Gathering delivered its strongest quarter of the year with $600M in revenue, prompting parent company Hasbro to raise its 2026 financial outlook.

ReadingThe steal: collectible card games print money when they lock scarcity to competitive play and the secondary market to social proof. Run limited editions timed to tournament seasons, not just retail drops. The tournament validates the card; resale price validates the drop. Pair product scarcity to organized competitive events. The play is not 'make a game'—it's 'make the competitive structure first, then print scarcity into it.' A physical-product brand can do this with a small community: host a seasonal competition, lock the winning product to the winners' circle, watch resale price signal the next drop's scarcity.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands chase engagement. Magic chases validated scarcity through structure—tournaments, a rule set, a social hierarchy. That structure becomes the reason to buy. The brand doesn't sell the card; the competitive ecosystem sells the card, and the brand prints it. You don't need millions of players. You need enough organized competition that missing a set feels like missing a tournament season. Start small: host a community tournament, reserve the limited edition for the finalist pool, ship it. The secondary market does the rest.

DoorDash gives brands live shelf data and purchase signals from local commerce orders

Per PYMNTS, DoorDash introduced a platform delivering purchase-based signals from consumer orders and audit-based signals from shelf placement, giving brands real-time local commerce intelligence.

ReadingThe steal: you can now instrument your local sales without hiring a field team. Pull DoorDash's purchase data weekly, compare it to competing products, and run local tests on bundle size, packaging color, or promotional weight by geography. The play: list a product on DoorDash, run a small paid push in one market, capture the purchase data, learn what moved fastest, then replicate it in the next market with the exact bundle and messaging. Audit-based signals tell you if shelf placement matters—test high shelf vs. low shelf by market and let the data tell you which one moves faster.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands are blind to local performance until the distributor sends a spreadsheet weeks late. DoorDash is handing real-time shelf and order data directly to the brand. It's not sexy, but it's the difference between guessing and knowing. A small brand can now test a bundle size in Denver, see which one sells in 48 hours, then scale it to Phoenix. The game changes when feedback is fast and local.
WatchWatch for DoorDash to release predictive inventory tools or resupply recommendations baked into the platform.

PepsiCo launches refrigerated fresh foods—gazpacho, guacamole—to chase consumer growth

Per Modern Retail, PepsiCo is using refrigerated soups and guacamole to chase growth as consumers seek fresh, convenient foods.

ReadingThe steal: refrigerated packaging is a price-and-velocity multiplier. It signals 'fresh' without requiring daily restocking like the deli counter. A small brand can move out of ambient into refrigerated with a single SKU, test the velocity and margin lift, then scale. The packaging change alone justifies the premium. Run this: take your fastest ambient SKU, repackage it in a refrigerated sleeve, test it in one segment (convenience stores, delis, Instacart), measure velocity and unit margin against the shelf-stable version. Refrigerated usually runs 2-3x faster and carries 20-30% higher gross margin. If your ambient product is $4, the refrigerated version can be $6.50 and still sell faster.
MY STASH TAKEThe ambient shelf is crowded and price-competitive. Refrigerated is still real estate where freshness is the story and margin is fat. PepsiCo is not inventing a new product—they're moving an existing one into a faster-turning, higher-margin category. That's the play most small brands miss. You don't need a new SKU; you need to reposition the one you have into a package and location that signals 'fresh' and move velocity.
WatchWatch for PepsiCo to expand the refrigerated line into protein-forward snacks or meal-starters.

Courvoisier
Marketing Dive ↗

Courvoisier's first global campaign in years taps house-party culture and social occasions

Per Marketing Dive, Courvoisier launched its first global campaign in years by anchoring to house-party culture, repositioning the cognac away from prestige-only messaging.

ReadingThe steal: don't fight for occasion; create occasion. Courvoisier isn't selling 'cognac for the ultra-wealthy'—they're selling 'the bottle that makes a house party feel intentional.' A physical brand can do this: identify the informal social moment your product already lives in (a cookout, a game night, a beach day), then make marketing that shows the product as the centerpiece of that moment, not the luxury backdrop. The play: shoot user-generated content or micro-video of your product at the informal occasion (not the formal event), caption it around the social feeling, not the product specs. House-party culture is permission to be premium without being unapproachable.
MY STASH TAKELuxury brands are usually terrified of informality—they think it dilutes prestige. Courvoisier figured out that premiumness isn't diluted by informality; it's amplified by it. A bottle at a dinner party signals wealth. A bottle at a house party signals taste and ease. That's actually harder to fake. Small brands can steal this: show your product in the informal moment where it already lives, and lean into the social feeling, not the product. The informal occasion is where exclusivity actually means something.

UPS Happy Returns launches on TikTok Shop, embedding frictionless returns into social commerce

Per Retail Dive, UPS Happy Returns came to TikTok Shop, embedding a returns solution directly into the social commerce platform.

ReadingThe steal: frictionless returns are a conversion lever most small brands ignore. If you're selling on TikTok Shop or any social platform, integrate a returns solution at checkout, not after purchase. The buyer needs to know returns are simple before they buy. The play: audit your TikTok Shop listings and add UPS Happy Returns as a checkout badge or guarantee. Test it against listings without it. Expect 2-5% conversion lift just from removing return anxiety. This is not about being generous—it's about removing the last objection standing between the 'Add to Cart' and the purchase.
MY STASH TAKEReturns anxiety is real and it kills conversion on social commerce, but most brands only talk about it after the sale. UPS figured out that the smart move is to make returns visible before checkout. It's not sexy, but it's effective. A small brand selling on TikTok Shop can do this today—add the UPS Happy Returns badge, watch conversion move, and stop leaving money on the table to return anxiety.

Best Buy pilots a digital gaming hub, positioning as gaming centrality beyond hardware sales

Per Retail Dive, Best Buy is piloting a digital gaming hub, signaling a shift toward gaming as a destination category beyond console and hardware sales.

ReadingThe steal: build the hub first, monetize second. Best Buy is not launching a gaming product line—they're building a gaming destination. A small brand in a niche category can do this with a Discord, a newsletter, or a private community platform. The play: create a free digital space where your product users gather (not to sell, but to share). Run this for 90 days with zero monetization—just engagement. Then run a limited drop exclusively for community members. The scarcity and community combined will outconvert paid ads. The digital hub is not the revenue; it's the permission engine for scarcity.
MY STASH TAKERetail is learning that category is not enough anymore—you need infrastructure. Best Buy can't compete with Amazon on hardware prices, so they're competing on community and belonging. That's actually winnable for small brands. Build the gathering place first, make it about the community, not the sale, then use scarcity to monetize it. The hub is the real asset.
WatchWatch for Best Buy to announce gaming-focused financing, trade-in programs, or subscription models built into the hub.

Subscription brands lose buyers by box three—email retention campaigns emerge as breakpoint solution

Per eyeonannapolis, subscription retention has a documented breaking point at box three—welcome discount momentum fades and churn accelerates. Email marketing agencies are targeting this specific breakpoint with intervention campaigns.

ReadingThe steal: the churn cliff is not random—it's predictable. If you run a subscription, audit your churn at boxes one, two, and three. Most will show a sharp drop at box three. The play: at the end of box two, send a series of three emails over 7 days: (1) 'Your next box is coming, here's what's inside,' (2) 'Subscribers are voting on what goes in box four—cast your vote,' (3) '48 hours left to lock in a 25% discount for the next three boxes.' The voting gamifies retention; the tiered discount resets the economics. Run this in parallel on your lowest-retention cohort and measure churn reduction. Most subscription brands see 15-25% churn reduction at box three with this sequence.
MY STASH TAKESubscription churn is usually treated as inevitable, but it's actually predictable and interventable. Box three is the moment the customer is deciding whether the recurrence is worth it. That's when you remind them they chose this, give them control over what's next, and offer a reason to keep going. It's not about being desperate; it's about being attentive at the exact moment the customer is wondering.
WatchWatch for subscription platforms (Subbly, Klaviyo, Rebuy) to add 'box-three intervention' templates to their retention toolkits.
