The Website You Never Think About Was Open Before Breakfast

PHP is the engine under 69% of the websites whose language is known, which means it is under the website in your company you have not thought about in a year: a dealer portal, a company store, the system that sends your email. The flaw had been in it for more than a decade. Researchers working with AI found it in August. The disclosure broke on Monday night, the attacks began before dawn Tuesday, and the patch landed at 10 a.m. Eastern while governments in Europe took their own websites down to wait for it. No company has reported a breach yet, and that is not the comfort it sounds like: the week between "nothing reported" and "the first one reported" is the week the checking happens. If your site is built on a platform that does not run PHP, this does not touch it. If a vendor's does, it may already have. One email, sent today, tells you within the hour which is which.

Gift bundles and Uber Eats integration drive holiday traffic to offline retailer

Kohl's paired curated gift bundles with same-day delivery via Uber Eats to capture cash-strapped holiday shoppers, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: don't just offer discounts on singles. Bundle three items the customer already wants to buy separately, set the price lower than the sum, and outsource delivery to a platform your customer already has installed. The bundle lands in their hands before the page even loads because fulfillment is not your problem—it's Uber's. Run this: pick your top three items by repeat SKU, create a named bundle (e.g., 'Game Night Gift Set'), price it 15% below the à la carte sum, and test it first on customers who've opened your last three emails.
MY STASH TAKEMost retailers still see bundling as a warehouse problem. Kohl's saw it as a friction displace. The bundle ships because the customer doesn't have to think about what goes in it, and it lands via Uber because the customer doesn't have to think about where it comes from. That's the move. If you're selling physical goods and you're still treating your fulfillment partner like a cost center instead of a channel, you're leaving money on the table.
WatchWatch for Kohl's to add bundle personalization—letting customers swap SKUs inside a pre-built bundle template.

Beauty category holds **73% of top-10 spots; #1 device reaches 82.5 million yen in one month

In September 2026, beauty products dominated TikTok Shop's top-10 ranking in Japan, with a single facial device hitting 82.5 million yen in GMV, per UreTik research.

ReadingThe steal: beauty's dominance on TikTok Shop is not about beauty—it's about visible proof in video. If your product shows a before/after in under 15 seconds and costs over $50, TikTok Shop is your first play, not your tenth. Skip paid ads to creators; seed your product to 50 micro-creators (5K-50K followers) who post unboxing and 7-day-use content. The algorithm will surface the wins. Cost per placement is $200-400 all-in; a single viral drop recovers that in hours.
MY STASH TAKEThe real insight is not 'beauty sells on TikTok'—every brand already knows that. The insight is that a single device, in one month, in one market, moved 82.5 million yen in GMV because it's the kind of product that proves itself on camera. If your product can't show its own work in a video, TikTok Shop will not carry you. But if it can, you don't need 1M followers or a production budget. You need 50 trusted micro voices and a camera.
WatchWatch for the #1 device brand to expand into adjacent beauty categories (skincare, makeup tools) using the same seeding playbook.

AI assistant + daily deals combo positions affordability as core holiday brand identity

Target deployed an AI assistant and daily-deal structure for its 2026 holiday push, emphasizing affordability and exclusive offerings to budget-conscious shoppers, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: daily deals work because they create artificial urgency, but they flop because customers don't know which deals matter to them. Pair the deal structure with a one-minute survey on first login—ask 3 questions: 'Who are you shopping for? What's your budget? What category?' Feed those answers to an algo that surfaces the 5 most relevant daily deals that day. The customer sees deals they can't ignore. Bonus: run a 'Deal of the Day' push notification at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. (two moments before checkout). Test with 10% of your email list first.
MY STASH TAKETarget is not trying to out-discount Walmart. They're trying to make their discount feel smart and personal. The AI assistant is the fig leaf, but the real play is making the customer feel like the deals are built for them, not just posted to everyone. That's a retention pattern.
WatchWatch for Target to integrate the AI assistant into SMS push notifications—surfacing personalized daily deals via text.

Refrigerated fresh-food line (gazpacho, guacamole) targets convenience-seeking growth segment

PepsiCo is expanding into refrigerated soups and ready-to-eat guacamole to chase growth among consumers seeking fresh, convenient foods, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: if you're selling shelf-stable packaged goods and your margins are flattening, move your best performers into refrigerated. The deli case is real estate you haven't rented yet. PepsiCo is not making more soup; they're making soup that sits in a different location with a different story. If you make nut butters, sauces, or soups, test a refrigerated SKU in 20 Whole Foods locations first—monitor velocity and margin lift. If margin lifts 20%+, scale.
MY STASH TAKEThe unstated insight here is that PepsiCo is cannibalizing their own shelf-stable lines to test a higher-margin model. That's smart. Most brands are too scared to displace their own product. PepsiCo is building the replacement before the original declines.
WatchWatch for PepsiCo to launch a DTC refrigerated subscription—shipping fresh soups in insulated packaging to home-meal customers.

Retention cliff at box three forces rethink: welcome discount wears off, retention drops

Subscription brands face a documented retention wall at box three, when welcome-period pricing ends and churn accelerates, per Box Three research.

ReadingThe steal: don't wait for churn. At box two ship, send a single email: 'Box 3 ships in 5 days—here's what's inside.' Do NOT mention price. At box 2.5 (day before ship), send one more: 'Box 3 ships tomorrow. Reply with any changes.' Then, the moment box 3 ships, send a personalized email (no generic subject line) showing the customer's actual LTV based on their first two boxes—'You've saved $X by renewing vs. one-time buys.' Frame retention as a commitment they've already made, not a new decision. Test this flow on 20% of your list. If retention lifts at box three, scale.
MY STASH TAKEMost subscription brands throw a discount at the churn cliff instead of addressing the actual problem, which is that box three feels like box two suddenly costs more. The psychology shift happens between box two and box three. Your job is to make them feel like they've already decided to stay.
WatchWatch for subscription brands to introduce a 'flex pause' option in the box-three email—let the customer pause one month without canceling, reducing hard churn.

Major beauty and electronics retailers enter TikTok Shop, signaling platform legitimacy for **$200M+ holiday season

Best Buy, Ulta Beauty, and Sephora are launching on TikTok Shop for the 2026 holiday season—their first presence on the platform—marking a major shift in how national retailers view social commerce, per Modern Retail.

ReadingThe steal: this is not a play for mega-brands yet (that's next). The play for mid-market is this: if you're in beauty, electronics, or home, and you're not on TikTok Shop by Q4 2026, you're leaving 15-20% of your likely-buyer demographic (16-35, female-skewed) on the table. Test with a 50-SKU catalog, not your full line. Seed to 30 TikTok creators in your category at $500 per placement. Run this through one holiday season. If AOV exceeds your email AOV by 25%+, expand to full catalog next year.
MY STASH TAKEThe real signal is not that these brands are succeeding on TikTok Shop—it's that they're scared of being absent. When your competitors are testing a channel, not testing it is now a competitive liability. That shift just happened.
WatchWatch for Walmart to announce a TikTok Shop storefront by Q1 2027.

Minecraft integration targets pizza sales to gaming audience; real campaign live, numbers to follow

Domino's launched a promotional partnership inside Minecraft, pushing personal pizza via in-game brand integration, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: gaming partnerships are not about selling inside the game (nobody buys pizza from a Minecraft menu). They're about brand recall and perception. Your buyer spends 15 hours a week in a game; you want your brand present when they're done. Domino's is planting a flag. The play for you: identify one gaming platform your audience actually uses (Fortnite, Roblox, Discord server, Twitch channel), sponsor one in-game event or creator, and measure brand recall via a post-campaign poll of that audience. Budget $10K-20K. If recall lifts 15%+, repeat next quarter.
MY STASH TAKEDomino's is not trying to sell pizza to gamers while they're gaming. They're trying to be the brand a gamer remembers when they're hungry at 11 p.m. It's long-term impression building disguised as a product placement.
WatchWatch for Domino's to launch a limited Minecraft-themed pizza box or in-game collectible tied to a real purchase.
