Per MSN / packaging industry reporting, converters and brands in Japan are integrating QR codes and RFID tags into packaging to track products and improve supply chain transparency.
ReadingThe steal: smart packaging appeals most to premium and limited-edition brands where authentication matters and buyers will spend extra. Don't put QR codes on all packaging. Put them on: (1) limited-edition drops, (2) premium tier products (higher price point, lower volume), and (3) collectibles. Link the QR code to a page that shows: product authenticity, batch/serial number, production date, and an exclusive content unlock (a video, a download, an NFT, or early access to the next drop). The code also lets you track which customers are scanning (retention signal) and from where (geography). Test with one limited drop: print QR codes on 500 units, measure scan rate and downstream repeat purchase. If scan rate exceeds 30%, expand to the next drop.
WatchWatch for luxury and collectible brands to begin using smart packaging for NFT or digital asset integration, and for retailers to adopt RFID shelf inventory systems.
