The Website You Never Think About Was Open Before Breakfast

PHP is the engine under 69% of the websites whose language is known, which means it is under the website in your company you have not thought about in a year: a dealer portal, a company store, the system that sends your email. The flaw had been in it for more than a decade. Researchers working with AI found it in August. The disclosure broke on Monday night, the attacks began before dawn Tuesday, and the patch landed at 10 a.m. Eastern while governments in Europe took their own websites down to wait for it. No company has reported a breach yet, and that is not the comfort it sounds like: the week between "nothing reported" and "the first one reported" is the week the checking happens. If your site is built on a platform that does not run PHP, this does not touch it. If a vendor's does, it may already have. One email, sent today, tells you within the hour which is which.

Beauty brand turns customers into sellers, commissions hit 15% ahead of holidays

Per Glossy, SharkNinja is enlisting fans and employees as beauty sellers with 15% commission rates, embedding them into holiday gift-guide challenges to drive category velocity.

ReadingThe steal: don't recruit creators; recruit your own buyers as commission agents. A 15% payout is cheaper than paid influencer seeding, and the creator already uses the product—the demo is authentic because they own it. Run a waitlist of your top repeat customers, offer them 15% on referral sales, give them a unique code and a one-sheet of gift-angle talking points, then seed the challenge with a deadline ("holiday gift guide closes Nov 30"). The infrastructure costs less than one TikTok seeding campaign and moves volume through people who already love you.
WatchWatch for SharkNinja to track which customer-sellers move the most volume and promote them into paid micro-creator status.

Limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 midnight launch sells out fast, per event strategy

Per MSN, Best Buy hosted midnight launch events on November 5, 2026, offering limited quantities of the Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console, driving sellouts.

ReadingThe steal: pair a real supply constraint with a time-gated retail event, then broadcast the scarcity ("limited quantities") in the pre-event messaging. Customers will arrive hours early and camp, which creates social proof and organic media coverage. Run this play with a complementary bundle: if you can't move more units, move higher AOV by bundling a game, protective case, or charging stand at fixed retail price. The crowd is already in the door; sell them the accessories before they leave.
WatchWatch for Best Buy to announce post-launch resale numbers and track whether the limited Switch 2 edition drove traffic to the broader console category.

Walmart pitches brand lift studies directly to agencies, shifting holiday ad logic

Per Modern Retail, Walmart's sales team is directly approaching brand clients offering on-site brand lift studies ahead of holiday shopping, reframing ad value around measurable impact.

ReadingThe steal: don't sell ad placement; sell measured sales lift. If you sell physical products and have access to first-party performance data (orders, AOV, repeat rate), bundle a before-after lift study into your pitch. Tell the brand: "Run this campaign, we'll measure the sales impact." Agencies will lose this negotiation because they can't tie their spend directly to your sales data. You can. Offer the study free if it wins the deal; your margin absorbs it because the proof locks in bigger spend next quarter. The holiday window closes in 60 days—this is the move to close accounts now.
WatchWatch for Walmart Connect to publish case studies showing lift percentages and tie them to platform features (on-site search, recommended products, etc.).

Design-forward Soho location repositions big-box retail as destination, not discount

Per Glossy, Target unveiled a revamped Soho location designed to reposition the retailer as a destination amid competition and boycott pressure, using space curation as competitive moat.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell through retail, don't fight on shelf space allocation in a warehouse; fight on the flagship experience. A single design-forward retail location in a high-traffic neighborhood can serve as your brand's permanent showroom and media generator. Open it not to maximize sales from that location, but to establish proof of premium positioning. Invite press, influencers, and key buyers. Make the space Instagrammable. The cost per square foot is higher, but the per-visit perception lift—and the third-party media coverage—justifies it. One flagship beats 10 ordinary shelves.
WatchWatch for Target to announce whether the Soho location drives higher AOV than comparable stores, or whether the flagship's real ROI is in brand repositioning and traffic to adjacent digital channels.

AI use policy update emphasizes craftsmanship over generated content, protecting seller moat

Per Retail Dive, Etsy updated its AI use policies to emphasize craftsmanship, signaling to buyers that platform items are human-made, not algorithmically generated.

ReadingThe steal: if your product is human-made or artisanal, make that the centerpiece of your brand story, not a side note. Explicitly state what you're not (AI-assisted, mass-produced, dropshipped). In product descriptions, add a line: "handmade in [location], no AI in the design or production process." In an era where buyers are fatigued by algorithmic feeds and generated content, the scarcity of real human effort is becoming a luxury signal. Lean into it. A physical product made by a person, in a place, by a specific method—that's the brand story that justifies premium pricing.
WatchWatch for Etsy to create a certification badge or visual indicator for 100% human-made items, making the policy enforcement visible to buyers at point of sale.

Box three is the retention cliff—subscription churn breaks as customers hit the third order

Per Eye on Annapolis (citing Box Three), subscription retention has a documented breaking point: box one hooks, box two lands while welcome discount feels fresh, but by box three, many programs see sharp churn.

ReadingThe steal: know your box-three cliff date now. Calculate backward from today to identify which cohort is hitting box three in the next 30 days. Before that shipment, email them with an incentive that's NOT a discount: a free add-on, early access to a new product, a referral bonus, or a pause-and-return offer ("come back in 60 days, we'll have something new"). The goal is to skip the full-price shock by redirecting the customer's expectation. Don't wait for the churn to show in analytics; intercept it 14 days before box three ships. The brands winning subscriptions aren't retaining box three; they're preventing box-three churn before it happens.
WatchWatch for subscription brands to publish box-three retention rates and cohort analysis; the metric will become as standard as CAC.

New store concept tests feel-good positioning, signaling retail format evolution

Per Retail Dive, Bath & Body Works introduced a new store concept, repositioning the format around feel-good consumer mindset.

ReadingThe steal: if your category is commodity-adjacent (beauty, wellness, fragrance, home), test a new physical-space concept that leads with emotional state, not product. Instead of shelving by price or type, organize by mood or use case ("calm", "energize", "focus"). Train staff to ask "how do you want to feel?" not "what scent do you like?" This reframes the purchase from logical to emotional, which justifies higher price points and increases attach rate. Run the concept test in one location for 90 days, document foot traffic, AOV, and repeat-visit rate, then scale or displace. The cost is layout and training, not inventory.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works to announce foot traffic or repeat-visit rates from the new concept store and scale timeline.
