The Website You Never Think About Was Open Before Breakfast

PHP is the engine under 69% of the websites whose language is known, which means it is under the website in your company you have not thought about in a year: a dealer portal, a company store, the system that sends your email. The flaw had been in it for more than a decade. Researchers working with AI found it in August. The disclosure broke on Monday night, the attacks began before dawn Tuesday, and the patch landed at 10 a.m. Eastern while governments in Europe took their own websites down to wait for it. No company has reported a breach yet, and that is not the comfort it sounds like: the week between "nothing reported" and "the first one reported" is the week the checking happens. If your site is built on a platform that does not run PHP, this does not touch it. If a vendor's does, it may already have. One email, sent today, tells you within the hour which is which.

Turned customers into commission-paid beauty sellers, 15% per sale ahead of holidays

SharkNinja expanded its creator strategy by offering customers and employees commissions reaching 15% to sell beauty products directly, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: your customer database is your sales force if you pay them enough to sell. Offer 15% commission to existing buyers and employees on holiday gift guides and watch word-of-mouth convert at higher trust and lower CAC than paid creator seeding. The commission is only paid when the sale closes—zero downside.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands still treat customers and creators as separate tribes. SharkNinja saw them as the same person. Holiday season is the hardest sell on paid media—but your customer telling her friend over text costs nothing until it sells. This is the opposite of influencer seeding. You're not building a following; you're building a commission army out of people who already believe.
WatchWatch for SharkNinja to measure repeat purchase rates among the sellers—if their own customers are buying more because they're now in selling mode, the flywheel closes fast.

Updated AI policies to require human craftsmanship disclosure, protecting artisan trust

Etsy tightened its AI use policies to emphasize craftsmanship and transparency, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if your brand lives on a specific belief (handmade, real, human), encode that belief into your supply-side rules, not just marketing copy. Etsy's policy update is not a restriction—it's a moat. It keeps AI-mill sellers from commoditizing the category and protects sellers who genuinely craft. Require disclosure at point of listing, not point of complaint.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the opposite of hiding the seams. Etsy is betting—correctly—that buyers of handmade goods will pay a premium when they know what they're getting. The policy is a filter that keeps the flywheel spinning: real makers stay, fake-makers leave, trust compounds. It's the smartest anti-commoditization move I've seen this quarter.
WatchWatch for other handmade platforms (Faire, NOFO) to copy this or face losing their own authority moat.

Cast Y2K nostalgia campaign to Gen Z, tapping cyclical trend in cultural memory

e.l.f. built a campaign around Y2K aesthetic and cultural recall, marketing the look back to Gen Z consumers, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: map the aesthetic cycles in your category and name them before your competitors do. If Gen Z is re-adopting early-2000s beauty standards, don't call it 'retro'—call it what they call it. Let them feel smart for recognizing the trend, then sell them the products that complete it. The campaign is permission to play the look.
MY STASH TAKENostalgia is always available if you know where to look. The smartest move here is that e.l.f. didn't explain Y2K to Gen Z—Gen Z already knows. The brand just said 'we see you' and stocked the products. Trend-spotting beats trend-making in beauty, always.
WatchWatch for e.l.f. to extend this into limited drops tied to specific Y2K cultural moments (fashion weeks, celebrity red carpets set in that era).

Introduced new store concept to refresh retail environment and customer experience

Bath & Body Works rolled out a new store concept design, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you own retail space, redesign the floor plan every 18-24 months. Move the highest-margin SKUs to eye level, reset fixtures to encourage multi-category shopping, and use scent and lighting to extend visit length. A store redesign costs far less than new inventory and drives 10-15% basket lift per visit if done right.
MY STASH TAKEToo many retail brands treat the store as a static box. Bath & Body Works is betting that the store itself is the product. New design, new experience, new reason to walk the perimeter. For any brand with physical locations, the floor plan is your biggest unfunded lever.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works to tie the store redesign to SKU rotation—new store concept usually means new seasonal offerings and higher turnover per square foot.

Seeded 'The Cat in the Hat' film on Roblox with limited avatar items and interactive play

Warner Bros. activated The Cat in the Hat film on Roblox, allowing players to interact with film-inspired items and unlock limited avatar items, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: when seeding into gaming platforms, make the product playable, not just visible. Limited avatar items (cosmetics, emotes, accessories) tied to film IP drive repeat visits and create trading communities. The scarcity is digital but feels real because possession is public and tradeable. Unlock the item through gameplay, not just viewing.
MY STASH TAKEMost brands still treat gaming platforms as billboards. Warner Bros. understood that Roblox players want to own something tied to the film—not watch an ad. Limited avatar items create the same dopamine hit as limited-edition product drops, but the cost of replication is near-zero.
WatchWatch for whether Warner Bros. extends this to allow players to wear Cat in the Hat cosmetics across other Roblox experiences, creating network effects beyond the single experience.

Revamped Santaland and reintroduced Holiday Square to drive seasonal store traffic

Macy's redesigned its holiday experience by revamping Santaland and reintroducing Holiday Square, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: identify one seasonal anchor experience per quarter and design the store experience around it. For holiday retail, the Santaland zone should drive 20-30% of November-December foot traffic. Allocate 15-20% of seasonal budget to experiential design, not inventory. The experience is the inventory.
MY STASH TAKEExperiential retail is the last moat physical stores have. Macy's is betting holiday shoppers will visit the store to experience Santaland and Holiday Square—not just to buy. If you can create one repeatable seasonal anchor (summer street fair, holiday market, spring collaboration zone), that zone becomes your marketing channel.
WatchWatch for Macy's to measure repeat visits to the experiential zones and tie loyalty rewards to those visits—the real ROI is in customer return frequency, not single transaction value.

Moved North American media to Omnicom, signaling shift toward integrated bespoke agency teams

Coca-Cola selected Omnicom as its North American media agency, moving away from legacy Pepsico holdover structures and toward a bespoke team approach, per Digiday.

ReadingThe steal: if you're a smaller agency competing for CPG budgets, the trend is toward specialized, high-touch teams. Large brands are tired of generic holding-company structure. Position as a boutique alternative: dedicated team, no Pepsico playbook, strategy built from first principles. Coca-Cola's move opens the door for smaller, focused shops.
MY STASH TAKEThis is early-stage but significant. It signals that the days of mega-holding-company rosters are cracking. For smaller brands, this is permission to work with leaner agencies that actually know their category. For agencies, the play is clear: specialize, staff deep, and promise no templates.
WatchWatch for other major CPG brands to follow—if Coca-Cola's move yields measurable efficiency gains, the consolidation trend will accelerate fast.
