The Website You Never Think About Was Open Before Breakfast

PHP is the engine under 69% of the websites whose language is known, which means it is under the website in your company you have not thought about in a year: a dealer portal, a company store, the system that sends your email. The flaw had been in it for more than a decade. Researchers working with AI found it in August. The disclosure broke on Monday night, the attacks began before dawn Tuesday, and the patch landed at 10 a.m. Eastern while governments in Europe took their own websites down to wait for it. No company has reported a breach yet, and that is not the comfort it sounds like: the week between "nothing reported" and "the first one reported" is the week the checking happens. If your site is built on a platform that does not run PHP, this does not touch it. If a vendor's does, it may already have. One email, sent today, tells you within the hour which is which.

96% of TikTok Shop buyers purchase more when they see verified reviews

Bazaarvoice surveyed 1,600+ TikTok users and found verified customer reviews are the close mechanism for holiday shopping on TikTok Shop, per Finance Yahoo.

ReadingThe steal: pull verified customer reviews into your TikTok Shop product feed, not buried in a collapsible section. Weight them above the product description. Buyers are 96% more likely to buy when they see real customer language first. If you ship to TikTok Shop without surfacing reviews front-and-center, you are leaving conversion on the table. Run a test: move reviews from 'See All' to the primary image carousel this week.
MY STASH TAKEThis is the TikTok version of the Amazon reviews problem — except TikTok buyers trust peer proof MORE than the creator's pitch. Every operator flooding TikTok Shop right now is focusing on the creator's angle or the product shot. The ones winning are letting the customer do the selling. If you have reviews, surface them. If you don't, ask for them in the first shipment.
WatchWatch for TikTok Shop to surface review volume and star rating in the creator's organic feed, not just the product page.

SharkNinja pays fans 15% commission to become beauty sellers ahead of holidays

SharkNinja is enlisting customers and employees as beauty creators with 15% commission on sales and holiday gift-guide challenges to expand reach, per Glossy.

ReadingThe steal: open a 15% affiliate tier to your customers, not just influencers. Host a challenge (gift guide, holiday picks, seasonal bundle) and pay commission on sales attributed to each participant's link. The beauty of a challenge is social proof — buyers see dozens of unvetted picks from real people, not a single sponsored post. Create the link in your admin, email every past buyer a challenge invite with the commission rate, and let selection bias do the work: the buyers most excited about your product will be the ones who sign up. Run this for 30 days during peak shopping season.
MY STASH TAKEThis is smart because SharkNinja knows most of their best evangelists are already customers. Instead of hunting down TikTok creators, they paid people who already own the stuff. The 15% is high enough to move the needle for someone making a few hundred bucks, not high enough to tank margin. The gift-guide challenge solves the blank-page problem — nobody has to be a content creator; they just pick their favorite items and share the link.
WatchWatch for SharkNinja to measure affiliate sales velocity by customer segment — how much do repeat buyers sell vs. first-time buyers.

Bath & Body Works launches new store concept to rebuild in-store experience

Bath & Body Works introduced a new store concept focused on improving the in-store environment and customer experience, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you are opening or redesigning a retail location, map customer flow first — entry, discovery zone, trial zone, checkout — before placing a single shelf. Bath & Body Works is moving away from the 'floor-to-ceiling product' strategy because it trains buyers to hunt for deals, not enjoy the brand. A cleaner space signals quality and reduces decision fatigue. Design the walk-through like a gallery, not a warehouse. Place your bestsellers in the second zone (never the entry), and group complementary products so a buyer picking up one item sees the bundle.
MY STASH TAKERetail design is brand language you can't do online. Bath & Body Works selling itself on clean space and curated selection is a direct counter to the dollar-store aesthetic they've had. For a small brand opening retail or pop-ups, this is permission to design for discovery, not density. The space itself is the ad.
WatchWatch for Bath & Body Works' new-concept stores to report higher per-square-foot sales vs. the legacy format.

CARNE launches limited-time Halloween pop-up with immersive themed experience

CARNE restaurant in Oxnard transformed its space into a Halloween-themed destination with seasonal cocktails, spooky culinary creations, and immersive décor through November, per PR Newswire.

ReadingThe steal: if you operate a physical space or host events, run a seasonal environment transformation with a hard end date — not a menu swap, but a total décor and service retooling. Print the end date on your reservation confirmation and social posts. The deadline does the selling. For a product brand, run a seasonal pop-up in a partner space for 3-4 weeks with exclusive SKUs and environment-specific packaging. The pop-up is your reason to email your list, invite press, and give local creators a reason to visit and post.
MY STASH TAKEA Halloween pop-up in October is not novel, but the discipline is sound: limit the window, overinvest in the environment, and let scarcity and immersion do the word-of-mouth work. For a DTC brand, this is how you test a brick-and-mortar experience without a lease.
WatchWatch for CARNE to extend the pop-up based on foot traffic, or to announce an early end-date if demand is lower than expected.

E.l.f. campaigns on Y2K nostalgia to reach Gen Z buyers

E.l.f. launched a campaign tapping Y2K nostalgia as a creative vehicle to connect with Gen Z audiences, per Marketing Dive.

ReadingThe steal: identify a cultural period or aesthetic your core audience experienced in childhood or early teens — not what their parents liked, what THEY liked. Create a limited collection or campaign that reclaims that era's visual language. The power is not in the nostalgia itself, but in the permission it gives buyers to break from current beauty norms. If you sell skincare to millennials, Y2K is played out; if you sell to Gen Z, Y2K is a permission structure to be 'real.' Run an Instagram Reel series showing Gen Z buying and wearing Y2K-era makeup, with unfiltered selfies and honest reviews. The authenticity reframe is the sell.
MY STASH TAKEE.l.f. is ahead because they understand Gen Z doesn't want to be sold nostalgia — they want permission to opt out of the perfection standard. Y2K is the vehicle, not the payload. For a DTC brand, this means finding a cultural reference your audience owns emotionally and using it to reframe what 'normal' looks like for your category.
WatchWatch for E.l.f.'s Y2K campaign to drive traffic to discount or value-tier products, not premium lines.

Etsy tightens AI use policies to emphasize craftsmanship and human creation

Etsy updated its AI use policies to reinforce the platform's commitment to handmade and human-created goods, per Retail Dive, signaling a shift toward protecting seller trust and buyer perception.

ReadingThe steal: if you sell handmade, artisan, or limited-production goods, audit your product descriptions and imagery for any language or visual that looks AI-processed or mass-produced. Etsy's policy tightening means buyers are now scanning for authenticity signals — process videos, maker bios, limited quantities, visible craftsmanship. Create a 60-second video of you making the product or packing the order. Post it to your product page or email every buyer a behind-the-scenes link. The making-of video is now the trust signal that commodity competitors can't replicate.
MY STASH TAKEEtsy is using policy as brand differentiation. They're betting that buyers will pay a premium for 'verified human-made' the same way they pay for organic or fair-trade labels. For a maker, this is permission to lean into your process, not hide it. The messy studio shot, the handwritten note, the 'made by Sarah' bio — these are now your competitive advantage, not side details.
WatchWatch for Etsy to introduce a 'Human-Made Verified' badge for sellers who meet strict process documentation standards.

Macy's revamps Santaland and brings back Holiday Square for holiday season

Macy's redesigned its Santaland experience and reintroduced Holiday Square as a seasonal attraction to drive holiday foot traffic, per Retail Dive.

ReadingThe steal: if you operate retail or host events, map the calendar for 2-3 seasonal destinations or experiences that become reasons to visit. Santaland works because it's recurring, branded, and tied to a cultural moment (Christmas). For a smaller brand or local retail, create a seasonal station — 'Summer Garden' in June, 'Cozy Corner' in October, 'New Year Reset' in January. Change the décor, lighting, and curated product selection. Make it feel like a moment in time, not permanent inventory. Announce the dates early so families plan around it.
MY STASH TAKEMacy's betting on seasonality is a sign that in-store retail is becoming event-driven, not everyday. The takeaway for a DTC brand or pop-up is: don't just open a space, create a destination. The destination has a season, a theme, and a reason to visit now, not 'whenever.'
WatchWatch for Macy's to report holiday season foot traffic and comp sales compared to prior-year, and whether Santaland and Holiday Square drive higher average transaction value.
