Accenture Song Takes Whalar in Undisclosed Deal—Largest Creator-Economy Transaction on File

Consulting's tech-marketing arm moves structural capital into influencer infrastructure as brand budgets shift toward creator-led spend.

Accenture Song agreed to acquire creator and social marketing agency Whalar from Whalar Group for an undisclosed sum, marking what both parties are calling the largest recorded transaction in the creator-economy sector. The deal transfers Whalar's 300-plus brand relationships and roster of vetted influencers into Accenture's $15 billion marketing-services division, closing what had been a conspicuous gap in the consultancy's direct-to-creator capabilities.

Whalar operates as a managed marketplace, connecting brands with mid-tier and top-tier social creators across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Founded in 2016, the agency has worked with Unilever, Nestlé, and Diageo on campaigns where creator fees now rival traditional production budgets. Accenture Song—launched in 2021 as a rebrand of Accenture Interactive—has been assembling a stack of agencies in commerce, content, and experience design. Whalar is the first pure-play creator shop in that portfolio. The transaction is structured as an asset purchase; Whalar Group retains its IP licensing and talent-management arms.

The acquisition reflects a funding environment where creator-economy infrastructure has become too expensive to build internally and too strategic to ignore. Advertisers shifted an estimated $7.8 billion into influencer marketing in 2025, up 23% year-over-year, according to eMarketer. That growth now runs ahead of programmatic display and is closing the gap with linear TV in certain verticals—beauty, wellness, and direct-to-consumer apparel in particular. Accenture's clients, many of them legacy consumer-goods principals, have been asking for creator execution at the RFP stage. Without a dedicated agency, Song was farming that work to boutique shops or losing it to WPP's Goat Agency and Stagwell's 10 Missions. Whalar solves the build-versus-buy calculus in one move.

The deal also signals a shift in how holding companies are pricing cultural infrastructure. A 2023 attempt by Dentsu to acquire Influential for $500 million collapsed over valuation disputes. Whalar's undisclosed price—likely in the $200 million to $400 million range based on comparable transactions—suggests Accenture is willing to pay a premium for first-mover positioning in a category where agency margins are tightening. Whalar's model, which takes a percentage of media spend rather than a flat project fee, aligns with Accenture's push toward outcome-based pricing. That structure also makes the unit easier to integrate into Song's existing commerce and media practices without cannibalizing legacy retainer revenue.

Operators should watch whether Accenture keeps Whalar as a standalone brand or folds it into Song's regional practices within six to nine months. The latter would indicate confidence that creator capabilities can be systematized across the consultancy's 700-plus marketing strategists. Luxury and hospitality brands evaluating agency partnerships should note that Whalar's beauty and wellness book—previously its largest vertical—now sits inside a firm with deep relationships in automotive, financial services, and consumer electronics. That cross-pollination could open budgets in categories that have been slow to adopt influencer strategies.

The transaction closes in Accenture's fiscal fourth quarter, ending August 31, 2026. Song has committed to retaining Whalar's 120-person team in London and New York, with plans to embed creator strategists in Accenture's offices in Tokyo, Singapore, and São Paulo by early 2027. The first test will be whether Whalar's curated-marketplace model can scale inside a consultancy that bills by the hour.

The takeaway
Accenture pays undisclosed sum for Whalar in creator economy's largest deal, solving build-versus-buy for influencer infrastructure as brand budgets shift structurally.

AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable.
