Omnicom's IPG integration is structurally done, but severance costs double as Publicis takes $2.2 billion in new billings.

Omnicom Group disclosed that its integration of Interpublic Group is substantially complete, with the majority of 15,000 planned workforce reductions now executed. Severance costs have doubled in the process.
The integration follows Omnicom's $13.3 billion acquisition of IPG, announced in December 2023 and closed in June 2024. The company reported flat revenues of $6 billion in Q3, unchanged sequentially despite a 6.1% organic growth rate in Q2. The job cuts, representing approximately 18% of the combined workforce, were concentrated in overlapping account management, media planning, and back-office functions across North America and Europe. Severance expenses are trailing the headcount reductions by one to two quarters, a timing mismatch that depresses reported margins even as the operational structure stabilizes.
The timing matters because Publicis Groupe captured $2.2 billion in net new billings in Q3 alone, per JPMorgan figures, while Omnicom and WPP recorded net losses of $300 million and $1.3 billion respectively. Publicis CEO Arthur Sadoun publicly thanked Omnicom for the market disruption. The pattern is consistent with prior holding-company mergers: clients pause, review, and often consolidate their own rosters during the 12-to-18-month integration window. Omnicom's flat Q3 revenue suggests that pause is still in effect, even as the severance phase closes.
For luxury and hospitality clients, this creates a narrow opening. Omnicom's integration playbook prioritizes automotive, pharma, and CPG—categories with the largest overlapping IPG-legacy accounts. Luxury accounts, typically smaller in absolute dollars but higher in margin and creative intensity, have received less integration attention. Several heritage houses are now conducting agency reviews precisely because their day-to-day contacts have turned over twice in six months. The structural work is done, but the relationship work lags.
Operators should watch for Omnicom's Q4 earnings call in February 2025, when the company will disclose full-year severance totals and provide 2025 margin guidance. If severance costs remain elevated into Q1 2025, it signals retention packages for senior talent, not just separation pay. Luxury clients with Omnicom agencies—BBDO, DDB, TBWA—should also track whether their account leads have been in seat for more than nine months. If not, the integration is not yet complete for them, regardless of what the holding company discloses. Publicis, meanwhile, will report Q4 results in late January and is expected to show continued net-new-business momentum through year-end.
The 15,000 figure is now a trailing indicator. The forward question is whether Omnicom's $900 million cost-cutting target, disclosed in August, will hold or expand as severance accounting catches up to operational reality.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
Built by the craft floor — apparel, media, packaging, and secure print.
This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori heritage press through approved vendors · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub. Short-run from twenty-five units, volume to five hundred thousand. Two hundred authorized national brands, seventy thousand SKUs with virtual proofing on every one. Art archived for instant reorders.
