Walmart closed its acquisition of Vibe.co this week, folding the connected-TV advertising platform into Walmart Connect and ending a six-month integration period that began with the June announcement. The deal, valued at $2.3 billion in disclosed regulatory filings, gives Walmart direct control over streaming ad inventory previously brokered through intermediary demand-side platforms. Vibe.co's 11 million monthly connected-TV households now route through Walmart's first-party retail data layer.

The consolidation matters because it eliminates a friction layer agencies tolerated but never preferred. Before the close, a brand buying Walmart Connect streaming placements paid Walmart's 12% platform fee, then Vibe.co's separate 8-10% supply fee, fragmenting attribution and adding latency to campaign adjustments. Walmart Connect now offers single-invoice streaming buys with same-day creative refresh, a capability previously limited to walled gardens like Roku and Amazon. Early tests during the integration showed 18% lower cost-per-completed-view for CPG clients running Walmart.com retargeting through the unified stack.

This also reshapes how holding companies allocate upfront commitments. Publicis and Omnicom both told clients in December to expect Walmart Connect to absorb $400-$600 million in streaming budgets previously earmarked for programmatic exchanges, according to three agency principals who requested anonymity because the guidance was confidential. That reallocation begins in Q2, when Walmart Connect starts honoring multi-year streaming commitments Vibe.co signed with studios and sports-streaming services. The 230+ content partnerships Vibe.co brought include live inventory from Paramount Global's Pluto TV and Fox Corporation's Tubi, giving Walmart endemic access to live sports adjacencies without bidding in real-time auctions.

Watch for Walmart to announce a self-serve streaming creative studio by late Q2, likely positioned as a Canva-style tool for mid-market advertisers who lack agency resources. Three former Vibe.co product leads now reporting to Walmart Connect's CTO have been hiring motion designers in Bentonville since January. Separately, expect grocery and pharma verticals to test 15-second dynamic ads pulling live pricing from Walmart's API—a format Vibe.co prototyped but never scaled. If that works, Target and Kroger will likely acquire or build similar stacks before the 2026 upfronts.

Vibe.co's 340-person team remains intact in New York and Los Angeles, now operating as a Walmart Connect division with the same leadership but new reporting lines into Bentonville. The Vibe.co brand disappears from client-facing materials starting April, replaced by "Walmart Connect Streaming" in all insertion orders.

The takeaway
Walmart's closed Vibe.co deal consolidates **$2.3B** in streaming inventory, cutting agency fees and forcing Q2 budget remaps across holding companies.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
