MagBak ships first enhanced image Google Shopping ads with 40% more visual space

Phone accessory brand tests new ad format that expands product imagery before the click, giving buyers detail at scroll speed.

According to PRNewswire, MagBak, Neon Growth, and Marpipe launched what the partners claim to be the first enhanced image ads on Google Shopping in August 2026. The format delivers more visual real estate and product detail inside the shopping carousel before a user clicks through. For a physical product brand, that extra space means a buyer sees the mount detail, the phone fit, or the colorway without leaving the feed.

The partners built the enhanced format to answer a simple problem: standard Shopping ads compress product photography into a thumbnail, and complex physical goods — phone mounts, multi-component accessories, anything with assembly or finish — lose clarity. The enhanced format expands the image slot, letting brands show texture, scale, or context that would otherwise wait until the landing page. MagBak, which sells minimal magnetic mounts and phone cases, ran the format first.

The mechanism works because it shortens the evaluation loop. A buyer scrolling Shopping results for a phone mount normally clicks three or four listings to compare fitment and finish. The enhanced image pushes that detail forward, so the click arrives pre-qualified. The brand pays the same cost-per-click but converts a higher share of that traffic because the visual already answered the fit question. For categories where the product image does most of the selling — anything where material, size, or design drives the buy — the format turns the carousel into a showroom.

The steal is straightforward. Most small brands cannot access beta ad formats, but the principle translates: push detail earlier in the funnel. If you sell on your own site, test lifestyle product photography in your Facebook or Instagram Shopping catalog instead of white-background shots. The platform may crop the image, but a mount shown on a desk next to a laptop tells the use case in the thumbnail. If you run Google Shopping through Shopify or WooCommerce, add a second product image optimized for the square crop: close on the connector, the clasp, the finish. Google pulls the first image by default, but many feeds let you specify a thumbnail variant.

For brands spending over $2,000 monthly on Google Shopping, ask your agency or your Google rep if enhanced image formats are available in your vertical. Accessory, home goods, and tool categories often enter beta first. If the format is live, prepare three image variants before you apply: a standard feed image, an enhanced version with text-free context, and a mobile-crop backup. Budget one design hour per SKU. Track click-through rate and conversion rate separately for enhanced placements; if CTR rises but conversion falls, the image is pulling unqualified clicks and needs refinement.

The broader pattern: as Shopping and social feeds get more crowded, the brands that win are the ones that communicate product truth fastest. Enhanced formats, better crops, and context-forward photography are not creative luxuries. They are buy-path infrastructure, and they matter most in categories where the product is the message.

The takeaway
Push product detail earlier in the funnel — better crops and context in thumbnails shorten evaluation and pre-qualify clicks.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
