MagBak, Neon Growth, and Marpipe launched what the partners reported to be the first enhanced image ads on Google Shopping in August 2026, according to TMCnet. The three companies stacked multiple product images and lifestyle shots inside a single Shopping listing, testing whether richer creative would lift click-through before Google formally released the format as a standard ad unit.

The mechanics were a workaround. Google Shopping listings ordinarily display one product image, a title, price, and merchant name. MagBak, a phone accessory brand, worked with growth agency Neon Growth and creative testing platform Marpipe to upload image variants through the Merchant Center feed, then rotated them dynamically based on user signal. The result resembled a carousel ad inside a static Shopping tile. The partners did not publish click or conversion lift figures in the August announcement, so the documented outcome is the format itself and the claim of first use.

The mechanism that makes enhanced images valuable is reduction of decision friction at the consideration stage. A shopper scanning Shopping results sees dozens of near-identical product tiles. A single static image forces the brand to choose between showing the product in use or showing the product itself. Stacking both images in one listing answers two questions at once: what it looks like and how it works. That collapse cuts one click from the path and raises the odds that the shopper who clicks is closer to purchase intent. The format works best for products where context or scale is unclear from a white-background shot alone—mounts, wearables, modular goods, anything installed or assembled.

A small physical-product brand can run the same play today without waiting for Google to formalize the feature. Upload three to five product images to your Merchant Center feed: one hero shot on white, one lifestyle image showing the product in use, one detail or scale shot, and optionally one unboxing or package shot. Use the additional_image_link attribute in your feed to attach all variants to a single SKU. Then set up a Shopping campaign with multiple ad groups, each pointing to a different image variant. Run them in a shared budget and let Google's rotation algorithm surface whichever image drives the highest click-through in each auction. Cost is zero beyond your existing Shopping spend. Time investment is two hours to shoot the extra angles and 30 minutes to update the feed. The test produces data within a week: which image type pulls hardest for each product category in your catalog.

The broader pattern is that Google Shopping creative remains underutilized. Most brands upload one image per SKU and never test. The feed supports up to ten additional images, promotional text overlays, and product highlight attributes that surface in the listing snippet. Each of those fields is a lever. Brands that test image sequencing, overlay copy, and attribute combinations inside the feed itself—before the shopper reaches the landing page—compress the funnel and capture shoppers who would otherwise scroll past. The move MagBak and its partners made in August 2026 was less about early access and more about treating the Shopping feed as a creative canvas rather than a product database. That shift is available to any brand with a Merchant Center account and a willingness to upload more than one photo.

The takeaway
Upload multiple product images to your Google Shopping feed and rotate them by ad group to test which creative pulls hardest before the click.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
